When you have COPD, you are more likely to get lung infections like pneumonia and the flu. This happens more often because your lungs become inflamed with COPD. There is also an increase in mucus and clogged airways. All of which keeps your lungs from clearing viruses or bacteria the way they should. Lung infections tend to be more serious, too. They can lead to exacerbations with flare-ups of your symptoms.
